Malawi President Announces Open Fuel Tender and Reaffirms Anti-Corruption Stance

President Arthur Peter Mutharika has announced his government will adopt an open tender system for fuel procurement to ensure stability in the sector.
He also confirmed that energy diversification remains a top priority, with a focus on hydro, solar, and biomass projects. This includes the planned construction of the Mpatamanga Power Station in 2026 to help guarantee a stable power supply.

The President outlined additional government priorities spanning agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, mineral processing, and technology. In a directive, he ordered the Ministries of Finance and Health to collaborate on securing adequate drug supplies for public hospitals.
President Mutharika also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the independence of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, ensuring it can prosecute cases without fear or favour. He concluded by reiterating his commitment to inclusive growth, stating that all Malawians and all districts deserve equal development.
