President Chakwera signs women manifesto, pledges commitment to gender equality

In a significant move towards promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera signed the Women Manifesto presented by the Women Manifesto Movement at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Monday.

The manifesto’s signing marks a crucial step towards addressing the concerns and aspirations of women in Malawi.

President Chakwera emphasized his commitment to valuing every voice and contribution of individuals, ensuring they feel valued and recognized.



He reiterated his determination to build on the progress made since 2019, stating, “I can only do better with what I started in 2019 without reverse.”

The Women Manifesto’s second edition encompasses 15 thematic areas, outlining key expectations from the President.

Maggie Kathewera Banda, Executive Director of Womlec, urged the President to prioritize gender equality, women’s political participation, and social protection for the elderly and women with disabilities.

Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Jean Sendeza, commended the President for his commitment to women’s empowerment, as reflected in his 2025 manifesto.

She also praised the President for appointing women to top positions in his administration, demonstrating his dedication to promoting gender equality.
