The CCAP General Assembly has organized a prayer session for presidential candidates ahead of the September 16 general elections.

The prayers, scheduled for tomorrow at St Andrews Church in Mzuzu, aim to promote peace and stability during and after the elections.

According to Reverend Mwawi Chilongozi, Secretary General for the General Assembly, the prayer session seeks to pray for peace and avoid violence before and after the elections.

Only three presidential candidates – Dalitso Kabambe, Cassim Chilumpha, and Hardwick Kaliya – have confirmed their attendance.

Church leaders have emphasized the importance of peaceful elections and urged politicians to prioritize the well-being of their citizens.

Reverend Getrude Kapuma, Deputy Secretary General for the General Assembly, highlighted the church’s mandate to pray for people.

Some church leaders have rebuked politicians who shun prayers, with Livingstonia Synod General Secretary William Tembo criticizing those who disregard spiritual guidance.

Nkhoma Synod General Secretary Vasco Kachipapa reminded politicians that they need peaceful citizens to vote for them.

The prayer session is a timely initiative, given the country’s upcoming elections.

It remains to be seen whether more presidential candidates will join the prayer session.
