MCP’s Zebron Chilondola condemns opposition insults, urges focus on development agenda

By Burnett Munthali

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) senior official Zebron Chilondola has strongly criticized opposition parties for consistently attacking President Lazarus Chakwera instead of articulating clear development policies.

Speaking at a political rally held at Kasangadzi in Dowa District today, Chilondola expressed concern over the opposition’s tendency to demean the Head of State, noting that President Chakwera has chosen not to retaliate despite the provocation.

He argued that name-calling and personal attacks will not help opposition leaders gain the trust or votes of Malawians in the upcoming September 16 elections.

According to Chilondola, the electorate is looking for tangible plans for national development, not insults or divisive rhetoric.

He stressed that leaders should use political platforms to present constructive ideas that can move Malawi forward.

Despite the criticism, Chilondola appealed to MCP supporters to maintain political maturity and not respond to provocation with insults.

He cautioned that retaliating with hate speech could escalate political tensions and disrupt the peace Malawi enjoys.

At the same event, MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda took the opportunity to urge Malawians to vote in large numbers for President Chakwera in the upcoming elections.

Chimwendo Banda emphasized that another term for President Chakwera would allow the continuation of various development projects already underway.

He called on voters to reject leaders who focus on slander and instead support those who promote progress and national unity.

The rally, which drew hundreds of MCP supporters from surrounding areas, comes as political campaigns intensify ahead of the decisive September 16 polls.

As the campaign season heats up, Chilondola’s remarks serve as a reminder of the need for issue-based politics that prioritize national interest over political rivalry.
