Minister Msaka reaffirms Govt’s commitment to expanding ODL

Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Bright Msaka, SC, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting Open and Distance Learning (ODL) across all educational institutions in the country.

He made the remarks on Friday during a courtesy meeting with officials from Astria Learning, a leading provider of ODL services, held at the Ministry of Education Headquarters in Lilongwe.

Msaka said the meeting aimed to explore potential areas of collaboration between the government and Astria Learning to expand ODL opportunities for more students and institutions nationwide.

He also expressed interest in seeing the organisation extend its services to secondary education, highlighting that more Malawians are expected to enrol following the introduction of free secondary education.

On his part,Astria Learning Regional Director,Sande Ngalande, said the visit was an opportunity to brief the Minister on the organisation’s services and its commitment to empowering Malawians through technology-enabled education.

He explained that Astria Learning is dedicated to ensuring that learners across the country can access high-quality, flexible education through virtual campuses.

Ngalande said the institution also provides affordable digital devices, enabling students to participate in online classes regardless of their location.

He added that Astria Learning’s systems are versatile and can be customised to support any level of education, including secondary education as requested by the Minister, with potential to extend services to primary education as well.
