Msaka urges universities to drive Malawi’s transformation through innovation, collaboration

Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Bright Msaka, SC, has called on universities in the country to position themselves at the centre of the country’s transformation by nurturing graduates who can compete globally and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Speaking on Thursday during a courtesy call meeting with the University Vice Chancellors’ Committee at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Lilongwe, Msaka stressed that the future of Malawi’s public service and leadership rests heavily on the quality of training students receive in institutions of higher learning.

The minister challenged universities to champion technological advancement and innovation that tackle both local and international challenges, noting that Malawi’s progress depends on bold and forward-thinking academic institutions.

He further urged the institutions to strengthen collaboration among themselves, arguing that unified efforts are essential for promoting academic excellence and accelerating the nation’s growth through education.

During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Vice Chancellors’ Committee, Professor Wales Singini, outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at improving coordination among universities and enhancing the overall quality of higher education in the country.

The Minister was accompanied by the Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, Ken Ndala, and the Deputy Director for Higher Education, Caroline Mwale.
