Ministry of Lands cracks down on illegal developments

The Ministry of Lands in Malawi has reiterated its commitment to enforcing land laws and regulations to bring sanity to the sector.

Commissioner for Physical Planning Robins Lukasi emphasized the importance of citizens abiding by the laws, warning that developers who build on land without legal ownership risk losing time and resources.

During a media visit to witness the demolition of illegal structures in Area 46, Lilongwe,on Thursday,Lukasi made it clear that the ministry will not hesitate to use the law to deal with illegal developers.



He warned that the ministry will not spare anyone, including those issuing and possessing fake documents.

The Commissioner reminded citizens that the entire country is a planning area, and compliance with land-related developments is essential.

He highlighted the case of a developer who started building without a title document or an approved house plan, emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated.

The Ministry’s stance is clear: it will enforce the Land Act and Physical Planning Act to ensure that land development is done in accordance with the law.

The demolition of illegal structures serves as a warning to those who flout the law, and the Ministry’s commitment to enforcing the law will likely have a positive impact on the land sector in Malawi. By promoting compliance and adherence to regulations, the Ministry aims to create a more orderly and sustainable land development environment.
