16 Congolese nationals arrested for illegal entry in Mzuzu

The Mzuzu Police have apprehended 16 Congolese nationals, comprising 14 males and two females, for entering Malawi illegally.

The group includes eight minors, aged between 8 and 28 years. The arrest was made on June 11, 2025, at Zikomo Lodge in Chibanja Township, following a tip-off from well-wishers.

According to Mzuzu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Cecilia Mfune, the group was hiding at the lodge and failed to produce travel documents when approached by the police.



The authorities acted swiftly on the information, leading to the successful arrest of the illegal immigrants.

The arrested individuals will be handed over to the Malawi Department of Immigration and Citizenship for further processing.

The case of the 16 Congolese nationals will be processed according to Malawi’s immigration laws, and the outcome will depend on the findings of the investigations.
