Limpopo FM claims receiving calls for Mary Chilima to run for UTM presidency
By Vincent Gunde
An online radio station,Limpopo FM, has claimed that it is receiving millions of calls for Madam Mary Chilima, the spouse of the late Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima, to take over the United Transformation Movement (UTM) leadership as its presidential candidate in the 2025 tripartite elections.
The radio station said that with Madam Mary Chilima, Enoch Chihana, Atupele Muluzi, and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika joining forces against the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), it will be a sigh of relief for Malawians to feel that change is coming in the country.
Producer of Limpopo FM’s Nkhanga Zaona program, Comrade Mtanyiwa, said that those calling for Madam Mary Chilima to run for presidency have seen something positive in her as UTM leader.
Mtanyiwa emphasized that it is the wish of every Malawian to vote out the MCP government, which has inflicted pain and suffering in the name of servant leadership, and never allow it to come back.
Activist Bon Kalindo was the first to propose the name of Mary Chilima to run for UTM presidency, arguing that none of the current candidates can protect Chilima’s legacy for future generations.
Kalindo pleaded with the Chilima family, saying that while they are mourning the departed Vice President, Malawians are calling for Madam Chilima to run for UTM presidency.
Kalindo noted that Madam Chilima will not be the first woman to take over the leadership of her husband, citing examples of others who have done so successfully.
“I am appealing to the Chilima family to allow Madam Mary Chilima to take over the leadership of her husband as UTM President,” said Kalindo.
He expressed fears that the battle for presidency ahead of the UTM Elective conference may lead to a split in votes, advising candidates to scrutinize each other and settle on a strong candidate.
