By Chisomo Phiri

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Director of Strategic Planning Dr. Ken Zikhale Ng’oma who is set to contest for the position of MCP’s First Deputy President in the upcoming elective convention scheduled for August 8 to 10 in the capital Lilongwe has urged the delegates to vote for him saying the party needs people like him on the position so that he help in campaigning massively across the country.

Speaking in Mzuzu on Wednesday when he officially declared his interest to contest for the position, Ng’oma called on all delegates to consider  the convention as a serious business ahead of the next year’s 16th September Tripartite elections.

According to Ng’oma, leaders who will be put in various positions through vote by the delegates, will determine the future of the party when it faces the opponents including its rivals Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

He further described the convention as the only preparatory session on how the party will approach the elections in 2025.

“The 2025 election are not easy, and for this reason we need a strong team that will face our opponents.

“MCP cannot do experiment towards such an election by putting in positions inexperienced individuals who do not know the dynamics of the party and who haven’t even tried in political battles ahead of elections.

“Experimenting positions ahead of this battle will be a grave mistake,” he said.

Further, Ng’oma who was accompanied by Rev. Mwayi Kamuyambeni urged all MCP members to rally behind President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in his endeavors for Malawi to develop.

The August Convention is considered a highly contested MCP elective process since the dawn of the multiparty.
