More calls for Kezzie Msukwa to resign

By Robert Mbetewa

Mzuzu youth Anti Corruption Movement has asked the minister of Lands Kezzie Msukwa to demonstrate leadership on issues of integrity by resigning effective immediately on alleged land deals.

The development comes at a time when the Anti corruption Bureau recently disclosed that it will challenge the decision by high court in Zomba to set aside the arrest and detention of Msukwa.

In a statement signed by Mathews Kajani Team Leader for Mzuzu Youth Anti-corruption Movement says it should be incumbent upon the president of the Republic of Malawi to exercise his discretion under section 95 (2) of the constitution by dismissing Mr. Msukwa as Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development with immediate effect.

“The movement is of the view that the case against Mr. Msukwa compromises the credibility and integrity that comes with the office of a cabinet minister” reads part of the statement.

In an interview with MIJ Online Mathews Kajani, Team Leader for Mzuzu Youth Anti Corruption Movement said they believe that resigning of the minister will reinforce integrity.

” We believe that resigning from office is a critical ethical decision for Mr Msukwa because it is a basic moral resource that can reinforce integrity, buttress responsibility, support accountability and provide leverage and boundary drawing” said Kajani.

Meanwhile the movement is gravely concerned with the continued involvement of cabinet ministers and other top government officials in suspected cases of corruption and other abuses of public resources. We believe that this reflects negatively on the Tonse Alliance administration.

The movement has therefore called upon the Tonse Alliance to take proactive and decisive action to stamp out corruption and abuse of office within their ranks. The movement would like to demand the following.

According to a statement from the Anti Corruption Bureau the minister’s arrest followed that of businessperson Zuneth Sattar’s partner Ashok Nair in relation to the alleged corrupts acts in the land sale
