CSAF says access to condoms a challenge to many Malawians
By Chisomo Phiri
Civil Society Advocacy Forum (CSAF) has observed that a possible access to condoms remains a challenge for many Malawians, a situation that is facilitating new infections.
In her presentation at a media engagement on condom advocacy in Salima on Monday, CSAF vice-chairperson Ulanda Mtamba said access to condoms remains a challenge simply because they are not distributed to the last mile.
She said:”Despite several efforts to expand the reach of condoms and lubricants, distribution and use have consistently been below national targets.”
According to Mtamba, 107 million condoms were distributed in 2022 against a target of 155 million.
She said this suggests an unmet need for the commodity among key populations as well as the general population.
Meanwhile, Malawi Business Coalition on health says it will continue to encourage companies to mainstream HIV issues and financially support the health sector.
This comes when 95 percent of financial resources on HIV prevention come from external donors.
