The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) is denying to release the 2023 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) results for two schools in Nkhata-Bay over alleged irregularities.
The results are for all 72 candidates at Tukumbo primary school and 19 out of 44 at Chapeta Primary School.
In an interview with local media on Thursday, Tukombo Zone Primary Education Advisor (PEA) Mazongolo Banda described MANEB’s decision as controversial and contradictory.
“This has come as a surprise because it is the same board that rated Chapeta school as the best in terms of performance,” said Banda.
Tukombo Primary School’s deputy headteacher said that the board has withheld the results following the excellent performance of the school which has attracted suspicion from the examination body.
MANEB spokesperson Mayamiko Chiwaya confirmed withholding results saying findings of the investigation will inform their next course of action.
On August 15,2023, MANEB released PSLCE results where out of 267 330 learners who sat for the examinations, 234 ,644 passed representing 87 percent pass rate,an improvement over the 83 percent pass rate recorded last year.
