Malawi Police in the border district of Mchinji are keeping in custody a 40-year-old Gresham Labani in connection to armed robbery at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Convent, Kapiri Parish Hospital.
Mchinji spokesperson Limbani Mpinganjira said in an interview that Labani and fellow robbers armed with K2C riffle, attacked the sisters at the convent and made away with property worth MK1, 029, 000.
“Through intelligence driven raids in 2022, Mchinji police detectives managed to apprehend five of the criminals in Mchinji and Lilongwe districts and all stolen properties were recovered, including the K2C rifle,” said Mpinganjira.
He said the five arrested criminals were already convicted and jailed for 21 years in prison with hard labour, but Labani and the other suspects were still at large.
Greshan Labani hails from Kanzimbi Village in the area of Traditional Authority(TA) Dambe in the district.
