Usi urges companies to produce, sell licensed charcoal

In abid to end overcome deforestation rate in the country’s hills and forests, Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change,Michael Usi has encouraged various companies in the country to start producing and flooding the market with more licensed charcoal.
Usi made the plea on Sunday when he engaged two volunteer groups that are taking care of Ndirande Hill in Blantyre.
The Minister disclosed that his ministry has already asked Raiply Malawi Limited to assist the government in providing affordable alternative energy sources to the majority of citizens in Malawi.
“As a ministry, we are doing everything possible to make sure that our hills and forests are well protected from deforestation. We urge every company to be with us in this so as we accomplish it together,” said Usi.
On his part, General Manager of Raiply Malawi, Swastick Shetty said his company will continue supporting the government in conserving the environment.
The company then donated K3 million to Njanja group for taking a frontline role in protecting Ndirande hill which is currently undersiege due to massive encroachment.
