The Malawi National Council of Sports has suspended all formal sporting activities that were scheduled for this weekend as the country mourns for cyclone Freddy victims.
In a letter signed by the council’s Chairperson Sunduzwayo Madise, the decision has arrived at following the declaration of the 14-day period of morning by president Lazarus Chakwera in respect to over 300 people who lost their lives after the tragedy.
The letter further advises all affiliated sports associations and their organs to take immediate notice of the suspension .
The council says it shall inform sports associations and the nation when normal formal sporting activities may resume.
Earlier this week president Chakwera declared a State of Disaster in the wake of the devastation caused by Cyclone Freddy that has also injured and displaced many people in the Southern Region.
