The remains of the two soldiers who died in a presidential convoy road accident on Monday in Blantyre have been ferried to their respective homes for burial
Both soldiers, Corporal Sheriff Maulana and Corporal Gift Kachedwa, hail from Lilongwe. Before ferrying the bodies, President Lazarus Chakwera visited the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, formerly known as College of medicine mortuary to pay his last respect.
The accident occurred near Grace Bandawe in Blantyre when they were on the convoy escorting the president to Sanjika Palace in Blantyre from Lilongwe.
According to an eye witness, the army vehicle, which is known as the ‘CROWD’ was carrying officers and was cruising on a high speed and the last vehicle on the presidential convoy skidded from the road and hit a brick fence.
The eye-witness said the driver of the Army armoured vehicle lost control and skidded away from the road then slithered and swerved side to side before lounging into a brick wall.
