The Religious Leaders Organisation has declared its support for President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s continued leadership, calling for him to be granted another five-year term to build on the progress made during his current tenure.

During a special prayer service held in Lilongwe, organized under the auspices of the organisation, religious leaders gathered to intercede for the President and the nation ahead of the upcoming general elections scheduled for 16 September 2025.

The leaders prayed for President Chakwera’s victory in the election, describing him as a leader with deep vision and the right attributes to guide the country through its development journey.

Speaking during the event, Muhammad Chindamba, who serves as the head of the Religious Leaders Organisation, emphasized that their support stems from their shared desire for national prosperity and continued peace.

He stated that Malawians have witnessed tangible development under President Chakwera’s leadership over the past five years, which justifies the call for him to be given a second term in office.

“Evidence is everywhere that Dr. Chakwera has performed exceptionally well in leading this nation. Development projects are visible across the country, and he has transformed the face of Malawi,” Chindamba said.

He stressed that the organisation believes another five-year term would allow the President to consolidate the achievements made so far and expand on them for the benefit of all Malawians.

The religious leaders also commended Dr. Chakwera for his patience, tolerance, and dedication to promoting peace and unity in the country.

They praised his ability to lead with restraint even in the face of political criticism, noting that his calm leadership has contributed to the nation’s continued stability.

Their endorsement comes as the country prepares for one of its most competitive elections in recent history, with political temperatures already rising and several candidates vying for the presidency.

The remarks from the Religious Leaders Organisation are likely to spark debate among various political and civil society groups as Malawians reflect on President Chakwera’s first term.

However, for the religious community gathered in Lilongwe, the message was clear: Dr. Lazarus Chakwera deserves another term to continue his work in transforming Malawi.
