Tour De Mzuzu set to promote cycling and raise funds for orphanage

The People First Foundation, in partnership with Grand Palace Hotel, is set to host the Tour De Mzuzu cycling race on July 26, 2025.
The event aims to promote cycling as a sport that can contribute to sports development and improve people’s health in Malawi.
According to Lumbani Kaunda, Executive Director of People First Foundation, cycling races have been overlooked in Malawi despite their potential benefits.

“Cycling is a sport that can promote sports development and improve people’s health,” Kaunda said.
The Tour De Mzuzu will start from Chintheche in Nkhatabay and finish at Mzuzu Stadium.
The event also aims to raise K61.5 million to complete Umoza Village, a home for orphans being constructed by the foundation.
Grand Palace Hotel General Manager Sam Phiri described the race as a unique sporting event for Malawi, but popular in other countries.
“This event will promote sports tourism as cyclists and guests will move between the two districts,” Phiri said.
The Tour De Mzuzu is expected to bring together cyclists from across the country and beyond, promoting the sport and raising funds for a worthy cause.
