By Vincent Gunde

Revolutionary leader of Muvi Wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP) Bantu Saunders Jumah the Utopian and Pan- Africanist, says Malawi must applaud its founding fathers for laying beacons of true democracy in the country.

Jumah has paid tribute to the country’s living legends such as Dr. Bakili Muluzi, Dr. Joyce Banda, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for accepting defeats that they have lost the elections without taking the country into war.

He said the character which was displayed by these three living legends has sent a strong message to the outside world that Democracy in Malawi has deepen – the leaders are letting their people opportunities to choose candidates of their choice.

Speaking through Pan- African Revolutionary voice, Jumah has observed that in countries such as Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Tanzania, democracy has been proved to be a failure because people are not free to choose leaders of their choice.

Jumah has praised the MCP (Malawi), UNIP (Zambia), KANU (Kenya) and PDP of Botswana for being exemplary political parties in Africa saying in their countries there have been smooth handover of power because people had the right of choosing candidates of their choice.

He said there are political parties in Africa Chamachamapinduzi- CCM (Tanzania), African National Congress-ANC (South Africa), SWAPO and NPL of Angola do not want their people to choose candidates of their choice saying the end result has been political unrest.

The Revolutionary leader has advised countries which do not want to give their people chance to vote for candidates of their choice, to love their countries first and personal interests saying their people will decorate them as heroes and great icons.

“Patriotism is not only to be in government, no true patriot can secure position in government, the best patriotic leaders are in the opposition parties,” said Jumah.

He has urged African governments and their leaders to develop the spirit of patriotism of their countries by making sure that their people are being regarded as first class citizens that they should be free to choose leaders of their choice.
