Police arrest Egnat Katengeza over alleged involvement in sister’s death

Police in Lilongwe have arrested Egnat Katengeza, 51, on suspicion that she played a role in the death of her biological sister, Agnes Katengeza, 44, in September 2023.
The body of Agnes, who was an employee of the Reserve Bank of Malawi(RBM ), was discovered in her vehicle behind Gateway Mall in Lilongwe.

Following the discovery, police arrested another relative, Amos Katengeza, 27, who was living with the deceased at the time.
According to Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, Amos, after his arrest in December, revealed that Egnat was implicated in the crime.
Chigalu further states that Egnat is suspected of committing the crime with the intention of gaining financial benefit and is expected to be charged with murder.
On the day of the incident, September 24, 2023, Egnat was reportedly the one who rushed to the police to report that her sister was was missing.
During their investigation last year, police recovered several belongings of the deceased, including an iPhone 13 and a laptop, which Amos is suspected to have taken and sold.
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather more evidence.
