Government launches investigation into murder of QECH doctor, Security Ministry warns against illegal firearms

The Ministry of Homeland Security has confirmed that police have already begun an investigation into the murder of Dr. Victoria Bobe, a doctor at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH), who was found dead at her residence in Blantyre on Monday.

Minister Peter Mukhito described the attack as unprecedented in the country, especially considering that no property was taken from the home during the incident.

He also instructed the police leadership to submit a full report on their findings from Monday’s investigation to ensure that the nation is fully informed about the situation.

The minister further issued a stern warning to all individuals in possession of firearms without a license, stating that the government has already initiated measures to identify and apprehend those illegally holding weapons.

Meanwhile, Blantyre Soche Member of Parliament, Penjani Kamlepo Kalua, who had raised the issue in Parliament, expressed satisfaction with the swift response from the Ministry.

Kalua described the murder of Dr. Bobe as deeply troubling and said it highlights serious gaps in national security that need urgent attention.

He emphasized the importance of the government acting quickly to restore public safety and protect citizens from similar threats in the future.
