Cholera cases emerge in Neno: Health officials sound alarm

The Neno District Health Office has confirmed three cholera cases as of today, with four other individuals showing symptoms and awaiting test results, raising concerns about a potential outbreak in the area.
The three confirmed cases are from Mkwinda, Kang’ombe, and Kanseru villages in the lower part of Traditional Authority Symon, highlighting the need for vigilance in the community.
Health officials are urging residents to adhere to hygiene practices, such as drinking boiled water, eating properly handled food, washing hands with soap regularly, and using proper sanitation facilities, to prevent the spread of the disease.

Caroline Banda, spokesperson for the Neno District Health Office, emphasized the importance of caregivers taking precautions when handling cholera patients to avoid transmission, stressing the need for careful handling.
The health office is taking steps to contain the situation, and residents are advised to be cautious and report any symptoms promptly, ensuring timely intervention.
