Over 176,000 farmers across Malawi will access agricultural inputs on credit from One Acre Fund for the 2025/2026 farming season.

Francis Chipanda, spokesperson for One Acre Fund, explained that the organization will provide farmers with seeds, fertilizers, and farm implements on loan to support and scale up agricultural activities.

Chipanda urged farmers to follow agricultural guidance and advice to ensure their farming activities align with seasonal conditions and commercial farming best practices.

Osmond Chapotoka, the Chief Agricultural Officer in Mulanje District, advised farmers to make optimal use of the inputs provided by One Acre Fund, emphasizing that responsible use will help maximize crop yields.

A farmer benefiting from the program, Shira Mapira from Mulanje, expressed gratitude to One Acre Fund for helping smallholder farmers access agricultural inputs on credit with ease.

The remarks were made during the official launch of the One Acre Fund loan-based input distribution program in Chambe, Mulanje District, held earlier this week.

The program is expected to empower smallholder farmers, increase productivity, and contribute to national food security by enabling farmers to invest in inputs without upfront costs.

One Acre Fund’s initiative is part of broader efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and improve livelihoods among Malawi’s rural farming communities.

Officials emphasized that proper use of these inputs, combined with training and advisory services, will enhance farm efficiency, increase incomes, and reduce the risk of crop failure.

Farmers are encouraged to repay the loans responsibly, ensuring that the program remains sustainable and continues to benefit future farming seasons.

This initiative reinforces Malawi’s commitment to supporting smallholder farmers through innovative financing solutions that link access to inputs with productivity and profitability.
