Former rights activist and current Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) Vice President Timothy Mtambo has issued a strong statement addressing rumors linking him to ongoing alleged planned protests in Malawi.
In a message that has gone viral, Mtambo urged the public to “please leave me alone; stop the cheap propaganda,” emphasizing his frustration with false narratives circulating online.
He clarified that the claims connecting him to protests are completely false and stated that he has no plans to organize or join any demonstrations.
Mtambo reminded Malawians that he currently serves as Vice President of AFORD, which is part of the ruling Mutharika administration, and that his primary focus is supporting the government.

He highlighted his duty to support his party President, Right Honourable Enock Kamzingeni Chihana, who assists President Arthur Peter Mutharika in addressing the economic hardships facing the country.
Mtambo stressed that the success of the Mutharika administration is directly linked to AFORD’s success, and he has no intention of seeing the government or his party fail, noting that Malawians have already suffered enough.
He called on citizens to recognize that DPP and AFORD have just taken over the administration, urging them to provide space and collective support for the government to implement its promises.
Mtambo emphasized that the campaigns and elections are over, and that it is now time for development and nation-building rather than politicization or online propaganda.
He condemned the use of his name and image for personal agendas or social media growth, asking those involved to stop abusing his identity.
Mtambo also reminded the public that he left the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) over five years ago, and has no intention of returning.
He clarified that HRDC now has its own leadership and structures, and that any matters related to HRDC should be directed to the current organizational leadership, not him.
Finally, Mtambo urged Malawians to disregard any statements not issued directly by him, noting that he has not appointed anyone to speak or post on his behalf.
He warned those spreading falsehoods or attempting to intimidate him that their efforts are futile, emphasizing that he has long moved beyond such tactics.
Through this statement, Timothy Mtambo has reinforced his commitment to AFORD, the Mutharika administration, and national development, while firmly distancing himself from false narratives, political propaganda, and past activism with HRDC.
