Malawi Defence Force marks historic transition with taking over and pull out parade

The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) recently hosted a grand Taking Over and Pull Out Parade at Kamuzu Barracks in Lilongwe, marking a significant milestone in the country’s military history.
The ceremony marked the official handover of command from outgoing Chief of Defence Force, General Dr. Paul Valentino Phiri, to his successor, General George Jaffu, in a symbolic transfer of military authority.
The event featured the handing over of the Sword of Command, a revered tradition that signifies the transfer of power and responsibility.
President Peter Mutharika, who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the MDF, had appointed General Jaffu as Chief of Defence Force on October 5, a move that underscores the president’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition in the military leadership

In a ceremony that highlighted General Jaffu’s ascension to the top military post, President Mutharika decorated him with the fourth star, officially promoting him to the rank of General.
The Taking Over and Pull Out Parade is a testament to the MDF’s commitment to discipline, professionalism, and adherence to tradition, as the force bids farewell to one leader and welcomes another.
As General Jaffu assumes his new role, he faces the challenge of leading the MDF in maintaining national security, promoting peace, and upholding the country’s constitution.
