As the official campaign period for the 2025 General Election begins, stakeholders are calling on politicians to prioritize issue-based campaigns that promote peace, unity, and development.

The Institute for Policy Interaction (IPI) has emphasized the importance of a violence-free campaign period, urging politicians to focus on policies and ideas rather than resorting to violence.

IPI Executive Director Nandine Patel made the call during an interface in Blantyre, highlighting the need for politicians to promote a peaceful electoral environment.

Memory Mgeni, Regional Community Policing Coordinator for South West, echoed the sentiment, cautioning the youth against being used as perpetrators of political violence.

The activity is part of the Go To Vote Campaign, implemented by IPI under the Malawi Electoral Support Project, with funding from the United Nations Development Programme.

With the General Election scheduled for September 16, 2025, stakeholders are working to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

The call for peaceful campaigns is a timely reminder of the importance of promoting a stable and democratic electoral environment.

As the country heads towards the polls, it is expected that politicians will heed the call and focus on promoting peace, unity, and development.
