By Jones Gadama
Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is taking proactive steps to enhance transparency and media relations by hosting a two-day tour of its Nchalo Estate operations.
The tour, which began today, is providing journalists with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the sugar production process, aiming to equip them with firsthand knowledge of the estate’s operations.

During the tour’s orientation session, Wilfred Ntengula, Community Services Manager at Illovo Sugar Nchalo Estate, explained that the event’s primary objectives are to promote transparency, strengthen media relations, and ensure accurate reporting.
“This initiative will help the media understand the challenges we face, such as the recent sugar scarcity caused by prolonged rains,” Ntengula said.
He emphasized that by fostering a deeper understanding of the estate’s operations, Illovo Sugar Malawi can demonstrate its commitment to openness and community engagement.
The tour will feature an in-depth look at the estate’s irrigation methods, including furrow, drip, and centre pivot systems.
This hands-on approach is designed to give journalists a comprehensive understanding of the sugar production process and the challenges associated with it.
As a blue-chip company listed on the 16-counter Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE), Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc’s commitment to transparency and community engagement is noteworthy.
By opening its doors to the media, the company is taking a significant step towards building trust and fostering accurate reporting about its operations.
