Maseko Ngoni Heritage Trust launches website

Maseko Ngoni Heritage Trust on Thursday evening launched its website aimed at promoting and preserving Ngoni culture both locally and globally at a colorful event that took place at Mount Soche hotel in Blantyre.

The platform includes a digital museum and offers various interactive features to engage communities, particularly the youth.

In his address,
His Royal Majesty iNkosi Ya Makhosi Gomani V,emphasized the importance of embracing technology to preserve cultural heritage in the modern world.

“The website lauch means we can now reach out to our people both within Malawi and those in the diaspora.People will be able to learn about their culture, appreciate various artifacts, and engage with our digital museum,” said iNkosi Gomani V.

He said the digital museum is designed to showcase Ngoni heritage, artifacts, and traditions.

“We are working with the times. This is the digital age, and we must adapt.Our goal is to ensure that young people have access to information about our culture, traditions, and values—things that were once passed down verbally around the fireplace can now be found online,” explained the Ngoni chief.

He added:”The website also aims to support local businesses and artisans working with cultural artifacts.

“The platform will facilitate virtual classes, including language lessons, and offer a space for Ngoni descendants to connect and learn.”

His Magistey said in addition, the website will feature a membership program allowing users to support underprivileged youth in Ngoni communities by helping with school fees, uniforms, and other necessities.

“People can adopt and support our youth through this platform. We can donate, contribute, and subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed about all developments in Maseko Ngoni.

“In this new digital age, we are not leaving anyone behind. We are moving together.What we can do with this website is limitless—we have only just scratched the surface,” he said.

On his part,Vice President Dr. Michael Usi, commended the Ngoni of Maseko for establishing the website.

The VP said the Ngoni have demonstrated a commitment to preserving their culture and ensuring future generations continue to follow Ngoni traditions, honouring their chief and heritage.
