Jumah claims Malawi politics is of milking peoples’ taxes

By Vincent Gunde

Revolutionary President of Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP) Bantu Saunders Jumah, says Malawi as a country has been bewitched or cursed by electing and voting for self-gratification leaders taking politics not for development but milking people’s taxes and chaining the future generations with whooping debt.

Jumah said in as far as the economy of Malawi has been for the past 30 years more particularly, the past 5 years of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and the MCP government, there is no need to be thinking of wasting meagre resources for celebrations of Independence or any luxury.

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his Vice Dr. Michael Usi-celebrating 6th July, Independence Day.

He said if the country had patriotic leaders, the country was not going to clock 61 years of independence with its people complaining of hunger, unemployment, collapsed economy resulting in skyrocketing prices of essential goods, and abject poverty.

Writing in a statement dated 4th July, 2025, Jumah said Malawi do not have patriotic and nationalist leaders, the country only has gullible men and women disguising as politicians saying if Malawi is to develop, or become a middle income country, needs a leader or government that will postpone independence celebrations.

Jumah said Malawi needs patriotic leaders who can ban any luxury lifestyle at State House as well as ministerial benefits up to the national Assembly for 10 years to rebuild and reconstruct this country, but unfortunately, citizens do not know that there is any leader who can do this.

He said the country has gone through economic and social hardships for 5 years, observing that the country has not produced anything to grow its economy, instead, the country’s economy has deeply gone down if not, collapsed.

The Revolutionary leader said the country has witnessed 5 years of poverty rate which has gone up, inflation rate gone up, and commodity prices have kept growing up at nobody’s care as if the country has no leaders to stand for the people.

He said the damages of Cyclones that devastated the country have not been fixed or repaired yet, corruption has milked everything in Treasury saying the country’s national debt has become terminal cancer of about MK17 trillion of which, MK14.7trillion has been squandered in 5 years of President Chakwera and the MCP government alone.

“Malawi got her independence in 1964 and to celebrate 61 years is doing this country and the people of the nation injustice,” reads the statement in part.

He said next door, is Tanzania – a country that is doing great economically and has managed to cross the level of middle income country cancelled or postponed independence celebrations and directed the intended celebration resources to education particularly the students who had nowhere to sleep.

Jumah said Malawi the 4th poorest country in the World has continued facing chronic corruption faced devastating Cyclones and just recuperating from Covid-19 pandemic, cannot waste any resources for independence celebrations crying for the country, and the future generations.

Jumah has finally encouraged Malawians not to celebrate independence Day for the resources to be directed to hunger stricken people that have no hope for a better tomorrow and procure medicines in the country’s health facilities.
