Airtel Malawi unveils AI-powered solution to combat mobile fraud

In a bid to tackle the growing problem of mobile fraud in Malawi, Airtel Malawi has launched a cutting-edge solution that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and alert customers of fake or dangerous SMS messages in real-time.
The new system, unveiled on Wednesday evening in Lilongwe, is designed to work automatically for all Airtel mobile customers, providing an added layer of protection against scams.

Airtel Malawi’s Managing Director, Aashish Dutt, said the service is free and aims to prevent customers from losing money to scams. “Many customers have lost money to scams, and this new system uses AI to detect fraud before it happens,” Dutt added.
The Minister of Information and Digitalisation, Moses Kunkuyu, and Malawi Communications and Regulatory Authority (MACRA) Director General, Daudi Suleman, have welcomed the move, saying it will help combat the growing problem of mobile fraud in the country.
