Film Association,CMIFF partner to boost local film industry

The Film Association of Malawi (FAMA) on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CapeMaclear International Film Festival (CMIFF) to increase exposure for local filmmakers and film productions in the country.

The partnership coincides with the Urban Music People (UMP) Festival, scheduled for October 21to 27 in Mangochi, where CMIFF will take place.

As part of the collaboration, CMIFF will screen local films during the UMP Festival and launch a Movie Industry Spotlight Series to promote local actors, actresses, and industry professionals through digital platforms.

In her brief speech during the agreement signing ceremony in the capital Lilongwe,FAMA President Dorothy Kingston emphasized the importance of such partnerships for promoting local films and growing the industry.

“This partnership will provide a solid platform for Malawian-made films and recognition of industry players for their contributions,” said Kingston said.

On her part,CMIFF Team Leader Samantha Banda said the partnership aims to create an event that showcases films, supports emerging filmmakers, and invites the world to discover Malawian productions.
