President Lazarus Chakwera has expressed his heartfelt appreciation following the recognition of Malawi’s Afrobeat icon, Tay Grin, at the Africa Day Awards held in the United Kingdom.

The President announced via his official Facebook page that Tay Grin has been conferred with the ‘Excellence In Tourism and Culture Promotion Award’ during this year’s ceremony organized by the Diaspora Economic Forum.

The event took place last night and brought together dignitaries, artists, and stakeholders from across the continent and beyond to celebrate Africa’s sons and daughters making a significant impact globally.

Tay Grin, also known as the “Nyau King,” is not just a musical sensation but a dedicated ambassador for Malawi’s culture, youth, and tourism sectors.

In his official capacity as Cultural, Youth, and Tourism Ambassador for Malawi, he has worked tirelessly to position the country as a major investment and tourism destination.

His efforts have been particularly focused on the diaspora community, where he has consistently championed Malawi’s potential in the global marketplace.

President Chakwera hailed Tay Grin’s contribution as both “priceless and patriotic,” acknowledging the artist’s unwavering commitment to promoting the nation’s cultural and economic interests.

The President further noted that the recognition aligns perfectly with Malawi’s national development strategy of accelerating economic growth through sustainable investments in tourism.

Tourism has been identified as one of the country’s three priority sectors in the broader plan to build a new Malawi and uplift its economy.

President Chakwera concluded his message by inviting Malawians to join him in celebrating Tay Grin’s achievement, describing it as a “tremendous and rare feat.”

This international honour not only elevates Tay Grin’s personal profile but also reinforces the power of culture and creative arts in reshaping Malawi’s image and future.
