Vice President Dr. Michael Usi has collected his nomination papers for the upcoming elections, according to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Director of Media and Public Relations Sangwani Mwafulirwa. With this development, the total number of presidential aspirants now stands at 18.
MEC has released the names of other candidates who have collected nomination papers so far. However, it remains unclear whether Usi will proceed to stand as a presidential candidate, given his current position as Vice President and speculation that he may instead be considered as President Lazarus Chakwera’s running mate.
The move has sparked interest as political observers wait to see how Usi’s candidacy will unfold in the coming days.
