President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has declared that the ongoing Bangula-Marka railway rehabilitation project is a cornerstone for future national socio-economic development. He made the remarks during a series of whistle-stop campaigns in Nsanje ahead of the September 16 elections.

The President emphasized that the restored rail link to Beira in Mozambique will serve as a reliable transport corridor, significantly reducing the high cost of moving goods and services. He stated that lower transportation expenses will make the region more attractive for business investment.

“Transportation costs of goods will go down, and companies will come to invest here in Nsanje as goods from Beira will be offloaded in Nsanje,” Chakwera explained to supporters.

In addition to the railway upgrade, the President also pledged that his administration would undertake repairs to the Nsanje-Marka road, aiming to improve its durability and further bolster the local infrastructure. The projects are presented as key initiatives for stimulating economic growth in the region.
