Another Malawian Murdered in South Africa

James Tawana Phiri, a Malawian national, has been found murdered in South Africa, adding to growing concerns about violence against migrants in the country. While details of the case remain unclear, the incident follows a pattern of attacks targeting foreign nationals, including Malawians, in South Africa. 

Confirming this, a statement from his family has been issued. It reads “It is with  heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the transition of our beloved brother,father, so. And friend James Tawana Phiri”



South Africa has one of the world’s highest murder rates, with most victims being Black South Africans . However, migrants often face additional risks, including targeted violence and scapegoating. Malawian community leaders have called for justice and better protection for their citizens living in South Africa. 

Authorities have yet to release further details on Phiri’s case, but the incident highlights the urgent need for stronger cross-border cooperation to ensure migrant safety.
